Karen Halsey Photography Exhibit

The Mesquite Arts Council presents a solo exhibition by Karen Halsey in the Main Gallery. Karen's photography has been capturing live music in Seattle and around the country for years. Her ability to capture the experience and energy makes for a truly unique show that gives attendees a backstage pass and front row look into a variety of concerts.

"Dearly Departed" by Mesquite Community Theatre

Mesquite Community Theatre presents Dearly Departed by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. In the Baptist backwoods of the Bible Belt, the beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious.

Mother-Son Dance

Mesquite Parks and Recreation proudly presents their annual Mother Son Dance, April 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mesquite Convention Center. The Mesquite Convention Center is located at 1750 Rodeo Drive. Boys, ages 4-12 will enjoy this fun filled evening with their mother with fabulous music, light refreshments and dancing.

Tickets will go on sale beginning March 5 for $15 per person. If purchased at the door, the tickets are $20 per person.

Spring Family Campout

The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department invites you to sleep under the stars at Camp Rorie Galloway.

Registration is in progress for the spring family camp out beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, until 10 a.m. Sunday, April 13, at the park located at 3100 Lawson Drive. Activities will include a bonfire, archery, games, astronomy and lots of fun!

The Family Campout is $30 per family of 4 and $5 for any additional people staying in your campsite. Cost will include a hot dog dinner and breakfast provided Sunday morning.

Families will need to provide their own tent and sleeping materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Don’t miss out on your chance to sleep under the stars with your neighbors. Register early by Sunday, April 14 at any Parks & Recreation Offices.

Mesquite Rodeo Parade

57th Annual Rodeo Parade

This long standing community tradition returns to downtown Mesquite. Horses, bands and floats will wind through downtown Mesquite on April 5 starting at 10:00 a.m. The parade will follow its traditional route starting on Belt Line at Newsom and ending on Galloway Ave. at New Market.

The Rodeo Parade is a community wide event that brings together civic clubs, churches, community groups, sports teams and schools. Many citizens secure their seats early on Saturday along the parade route so be sure to get there early.

This year’s rodeo parade Grand Marshall will be Kloie Oguntodu, a 2nd grader at Shaw Elementary. Kloie won the girls, ages 6-7, NFL National Championship Punt, Pass and Kick competition, bringing national attention to Mesquite.

The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department is seeking participants for the annual Rodeo Parade. Anyone interested in the event may obtain an entry form by contacting Heidi Lyon at 972.285.4145 or by email at hlyon@cityofmesquite.com.

Breakfast With the Bunny and Egg Hunt

Meet and greet the Easter bunny at this year’s, Breakfast with the Bunny at Evans Recreation Center, located at 1116 Hillcrest Street. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 from 8 to 10 a.m. There will be a pancake breakfast for $5, as well as, pictures with the bunny, which will be an extra fee of $3. Breakfast with Bunny will also include hamster balls, a petting zoo, face painting, balloon animals and at 10:30 a.m., there will be an egg hunt for infants to 9 years of age. The egg hunt will be broken down by age groups:
0-2, 2-4, 5-7 and 8 -9

Breakfast with the Bunny is an event the whole family can attend and enjoy!

Mesquite Artisan Faire

Are you an artisan that dabbles in fine arts, crafts, sculptures, jewelry, mixed media, glass, wood, photography, furniture, and (insert your art here)? If so, this event is for you! The Mesquite Arts Center is seeking artisans and vendors for the first Mesquite Artisan Faire on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10 to 4pm. Any local artisans should send an email to cflores@cityofmesquite.com for registration information. Limited tables are available so please contact the Arts Center by 4/1.

All proceeds from the Mesquite Artisan Faire will benefit Leadership Mesquite. Leadership Mesquite is a nine-month educational/leadership program of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. It identifies, honors, educates, challenges and develops a select group of emerging business and civic leaders with the potential to provide future leadership in the Mesquite community.

Devil's Bowl Speedway

Enjoy auto racing at the Southwest’s most famous dirt track! With its half-mile, oval clay track, Devil’s Bowl Speedway hosts Race Saver Sprints, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Late Model auto racing. Gates open at 6 p.m., hot laps at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m. In April, races are April 5, 12, 18, 19 and 26.

To get to Devil's Bowl Speedway: Take Interstate 20 East of Mesquite to the Lawson Road exit (three miles east of the I-635 interchange). The speedway is three and one-half miles north on Lawson Road.
