Texas Sculpture Association Exhibit

The Mesquite Arts Council presents an exhibit by Texas Sculpture Association in the Main Gallery. The exhibition features artworks composed from a variety of sculptural media by 20 participating artists from across the state, all who are members of the Texas Sculpture Association (TSA). This annual event is a staple for TSA, giving its members an opportunity to showcase their work. The TSA is a state-wide non-profit organization that provides sculptors the opportunity to learn more about the art of sculpture and share their artistic vision with the public. Hours are M-F 8a-5p and during performances. Call the Arts Council for information at 972/216-6444.

Fiddler on the Roof

In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Missoula Theatre Camp production of Robin Hood

Missoula Theatre Camp production of the musical "Robin Hood" will be presented by the Mesquite Arts Council on Saturday July 19 at 3 pm and 5:30 pm.

Missoula Theatre Camp is for children Grades 1-12 (must be at least 6 years old).

Led by two professional tour actor/directors from MCT, this intensive week-long camp culminates in a full-scale musical theatre production, featuring campers as actors or assistant directors. The production is designed with suitable parts for every age, skill and experience level. IMPORTANT: If your child is selected, he/she will be expected to be available EVERYDAY (unless otherwise notified) beginning right after the audition through the two (2) Saturday performances. A ticketed performance will take place on Saturday, July 19 at 3:00 and 5:30

Camp is Monday through Friday from Noon – 4:30 with auditions beginning at noon on Monday, July 14th. Maximum camp enrollment 25 kids - $70.00 payable immediately following auditions for those who are cast.

Who may audition? All children kindergarten through grade 12. Previous experience not required, just a lot of enthusiasm, a great smile, the ability to sing on key and most importantly, good listening skills. No prepared material is required. The audition takes about two (2) hours during which time the participants MUST be prepared to stay quietly in their seats without their parent(s). The names of those selected to participate will be announced at the close of the audition, and the first rehearsal will begin after a short lunch break and announcements. Parents must provide their children with lunch on audition day if they are chosen and thereafter.

Immersed In Ink Tattoo Arts & Horror Festival

Immersed In Ink Tattoo Arts & Horror Festival will be making our next stop on the 2014 Tour on July 4-6 at the Mesquite Convention Center. This show is a celebration of pop culture in tattoo arts and films and features some of the hottest tattoo artists from all over the US. Live tattooing, gut wrenching sideshows, costume contests, Ms. Tattoo Pageant, human suspension, insane body modification, tattoo contests, guest appearances by some of your favorite horror celebrities and so much more! The Dallas Tattoo & Horror Expo is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Mesquite Parks and Recreation invites the public to City Lake Park on the evening of Friday July 11 to Movies in the Park, featuring Despicable Me 2. Pre-show activities start at 7 p.m. The feature presentation - Despicable Me 2 -- begins at 8:30 p.m. This is part of a series lasting throughout the summer. Movies in the Park are a great opportunity for the whole family to experience movie watching in the great outdoors. The event is free. Patrons are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets, lawn chairs, and blankets.

Devil's Bowl Speedway

Toys for Tots and Fireworks Extravaganza! Enjoy auto racing at the Southwest’s most famous dirt track! With its half-mile, oval clay track, Devil’s Bowl Speedway hosts Race Saver Sprints, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Late Model auto racing. Gates open at 6 p.m., hot laps at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m. In July, races are July 4, 5, 12, 19, and 26.

To get to Devil's Bowl Speedway: Take Interstate 20 East of Mesquite to the Lawson Road exit (three miles east of the I-635 interchange). The speedway is three and one-half miles north on Lawson Road.
