White Rock Weaving Center Exhibit

The Mesquite Arts Council presents an exhibit from the White Rock
Weaving Center in the Main Gallery. The exhibition will feature the work of twenty weavers and over 75 pieces using traditional textile techniques as well as some innovative contemporary materials by artists whose skills range from beginners to advanced. Addressing Mesquite Day

The City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance are hosting one of the largest one-day volunteer efforts in the North Texas region on Saturday, October 11, 2014. As part of Addressing Mesquite Day, the City sets aside one day a year where volunteers gather to perform needed tasks for elderly and disabled members of the community. Addressing Mesquite Day will have hundreds of volunteers from churches, civic clubs and other organizations in Mesquite performing minor home repairs and yard work for residents in need.

Haunted Camp Out

Join us for a spooky good time on October 11-12, 2014 for the Haunted Camp Out at Camp Rorie Galloway. We’ll have pumpkin carving, tent decorating, a costume contest, tent-or-treating, camp fire and scary stories, plus a few surprises along the way.

Families can begin arriving to setup tents and sleeping areas at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11. The camp out will end at 10:00 a.m. the next morning. The cost is $30 for a family of 4, with each additional family member costing $5.00 each. Included in the cost is a hot dog dinner on Saturday and breakfast tacos on Sunday morning.

Treasures Barn Sale

Historic Mesquite Inc. is hosting its third annual Treasures Barn Sale as a way to raise awareness – and funds – for Opal Lawrence Historical Park. The Treasures sale will take place Oct. 17 and 18, 2014 and it will be open to the public. The organization is taking all donations, from cast-offs, to attic finds, to stuff just no longer needed and will offer the best back to shoppers at great prices! Drop off days at the barn at 701 E. Kearney are: Thursdays, Sept. 18, 25 and Oct. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sept. 20, 27 and Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon.
A chili dinner preview party will be held Oct. 16 for those who want a head-start on finding their newest can’t-live-without items! Tickets are required for the preview party and can be purchased for $15 each by calling 972-216-6468. Check back for sale hours.

Pumpkin Fest

Saturday, October 18, 2014 at City Lake Park, 403 S. Galloway from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. the City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation and Community Heart of Mesquite will host the 14th annual PumpkinFest. This free event will include carnival games, bounce houses, air brush tattoos, picture booth, pony rides, petting zoo and live performances on the community stage. Devil's Bowl Speedway

41st Annual Winter Nationals- Lucas Oil ASCS Sprintcars National Tour. Enjoy auto racing at the Southwest’s most famous dirt track! With its half-mile, oval clay track, Devil’s Bowl Speedway hosts Race Saver Sprints, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Late Model auto racing. Gates open at 6 p.m., hot laps at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m. In October, races are October 17 and 18.

To get to Devil's Bowl Speedway: Take Interstate 20 East of Mesquite to the Lawson Road exit (three miles east of the I-635 interchange). The speedway is three and one-half miles north on Lawson Road.

The Amazing Technicolor 5K Run

The Amazing Technicolor 5K Run is a run that will distract and please you from beginning to end. You won't even notice that you have completed a 3.1 mile course. You will start clean and without blemish and will finish covered head to toe with all the colors of the rainbow. From the beginning, throughout the course and at the finish line you will be showered with colored powder.

This is an untimed event with just 2 Requirements:

The Amazing Technicolor 5k is for everyone! You don't have to be a runner. You don't have to do anything other than walk. Age? 2 to 92. The main qualification is that you have a great time and create great memories with your friends and family.

The Amazing Technicolor 5k supports the efforts of the Mesquite ISD Education Foundation, Inc., and the Mesquite Education Association (MEA). These partner organizations are dedicated to enriching and enhancing the education of Mesquite’s 39,000 youngsters.
