Yale University Women’s Slavic Trio Concert
The Yale University Women’s Slavic Trio presents a free concert at 7p in the Concert Hall. Come see The Nightingale Trio from the Yale Women's Slavic Chorus perform traditional folk music from all over the Balkans and Eastern Europe during their return tour to Dallas! Tickets $10 at the door.
The Nightingale Trio is a women’s vocal arts group inspired by traditional folk songs and vocal techniques from the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Composed of only three, recent, Yale graduates, the group’s songs manage to sound fuller than a trio, yet still maintain the intimate, tight harmonies of a small, family band. Though dedicated to recreating the rhythmic, complex, and stunning folk songs that have spanned centuries of Slavic artistic culture, the Nightingale Trio also strives to expand the boundaries of the traditional folk genre by bringing their own unique forms of expression and creativity to the dynamic and ever-evolving art form. The Trio will be putting a percentage of their profits towards Autism research, so any donations that can be made during their performances will be greatly appreciated. For more information about the group or to view their additional performances, please visit: www.facebook.com/TheNightingaleTrio or contact their tour manager, Rachel LaViola (PC '12), at rachel.laviola@gmail.com.

Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride
Since its beginnings in 1995, the Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride has provided a consistently praised, fun event for cyclists. Sponsored by the Mesquite Rotary Club and benefiting Mesquite charities and scholarship funds. Check website for route information and registration details.
From an article by Dr. James Griffin in the Mesquite News:
Register now for the Mesquite Rotary Club’s 17th annual Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride, presented by Agape Home Healthcare.
The charity fundraiser is coming up at the Mesquite Rodeo Convention Center (at Military Parkway and I-635 L.B.J. Freeway) at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Cyclists will be able to choose the controlled route that best suits their abilities and interests, including the choice of 33K, 65K, or 100K courses.
In addition to the controlled ride, those registering will get food and coffee from Panera Bread of Mesquite, a catered lunch from Buffalo Wild Wings of Mesquite, and a goody bag of gifts from area businesses. All registered riders 18 years of age or older will be eligible to win a new $1,500 Trek Madone 2.1 road bike or $400 GoPro Hero3 Black Edition HD camcorder courtesy of Richardson Bike Mart, or one of eleven $100 gift cards from Plano Cycling & Fitness.
Drawings will take place at 10 a.m. on ride day, and riders do not need to be present to win. See Official Rules for complete details. The first 1,500 to register will also receive a Dry Fit Performance event T-shirt. Early registration until ride day costs only $30 for adults and $20 for kids age 14 and under. Ride-day registration will be $5 more.
The major community sponsors for the 2013 Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride include Agape Home Healthcare, the city of Mesquite, the Town of Sunnyvale, ASI Gymnastics, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar of Mesquite, Panera Bread of Mesquite, Town East Kwik Kopy, Mesquite Pro Rodeo, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Mesquite I.S.D. and 24 Hour Fitness of Mesquite.
The popular annual ride supports the Mesquite Rotary Club’s programs to assist in local community needs, and worthy projects throughout the world. Local area donations have contributed toward the construction of the new Mesquite 9/11 Memorial Project, financed the reconstruction of the 1850’s era log cabin that is being used to begin the Historic Mesquite-Keep Mesquite Beautiful nature trail at the Opal Lawrence Historical Park, scholarships for local high school graduates, Mesquite’s “Discovery Playground,” and more. International projects have benefited needy communities and schools in South Africa, the Wheelchair Foundation, and Rotary International’s Polio Plus immunization campaign to eradicate polio in the world, and clean water projects.
On-site registration will begin at 6 a.m. that morning. Early registration materials and brochures are available at area bike shops.
